When the Lake Leamy Casino decided to reinforce its position as a major tourist attraction, a project to build a new hotel destination and a luxurious showroom emerged. Invited to be a member of the team of professionals and consultants entrusted with the development of this up scale cultural facility, Scéno Plus took up the challenge with enthusiasm. A vast 1,000-seat theatre was designed, capable of presenting a large variety of productions, while maintaining a very warm and intimate atmosphere. Even though the schedule was geared at very fast pace, the showroom was completed on time, within 12 months.
Outstanding features
By designing a very wide and shallow room, with only one balcony, this conveys a very intimate atmosphere to the venue. The objective was to keep all spectators as close to the stage as possible. The intimacy is also reinforced by the sensuality and comfort of the interior design: carpeting, woodworks, dark warm colors and large comfortable seats.
In order to offset the flatting effect of the very wide space, special attention was given to the design of the ceiling and walls so as to give more verticality and height to the room. One can circulate in the theatre with a great sense of ease, obtained by the presence of means of egress not only at the back of the room but also on the sides.
Removing the seats at the orchestral level and installing risers easily creates a 530-seat cabaret, with 266 spectators at the mezzanine level.
In the lobby, large windows offer an impressive sense of openness to the surrounding natural environment, reinforced by a glittering ceiling, calling to mind a star lit sky.
