Mann's Chinese Theatre

Viacom Entertainment Corporation
Hollywood, California, United States of America

  • Area : 26,215 square feet
  • Type : Multidisciplinary Spaces, Theatres & Concert Halls
  • Capacity : 75 seats (balcony), 1350 places

Since its opening in 1927, the Mann’s Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard has remained one of the world’s most famous movie houses. Paramount still holds lavish world premieres there, and it’s the number 1 tourist destination in the Los Angeles area, as visitors flock to see movie stars’ footprints in the pavement in front of the theatre.   Scéno Plus was given the delicate task of developing a design for refurbishing this icon, flagship of the American movie star system that would preserve its beauty, keep visitors safe and meet commercial requirements.

Outstanding features

The restoration and refurbishment of such a historic building was a difficult task that involved reconciling various factors: heritage preservation, earthquake protection, top-of-the-line customer service and commercial requirements.

Architectural lighting was used to highlight and balance the beautiful heritage features of the building along with Paramount’s promotional features.

An organic architectural link was created between the exterior courtyard of the Chinese Theatre and the Hollywood Highland complex next door, where the Academy Awards ceremony is held.

The public areas are now more convivial spaces, and the VIP room and boxes are extremely elegant.
