Shanghai Performance Centre

AEG Live
Shanghai, China

  • Type : Concept, Transformable
  • Capacity : 18000 seats

With the universal Expo 2010 taking place in Shanghai, Sceno Plus was mandated to work on a design for a multifunctional arena called Shanghai Performance Centre. Located in the centre of this international event and overlooking the Huangpu River, the facility needed to have multiple essential design criteria such as the capacity to welcome 18,000 patrons, an innovative seating technology to be able to make rapid room turnovers and cutting-edge specialized equipment systems to accomodate any touring shows.

Outstanding features

The Shanghai Performance Centre offers several configuration possibilities by setting the arena for 18,000, 12,000, 8,000 or 4,000 people. With moveable vertical partition walls, the arena could be modified to receive maximum capacity of patrons for a large concert or sports event to a reduced capacity venue in order to create a more intimate ambiance.

The design criteria of the arena study have been defined to give the city of Shanghai and its citizens a spectacular and unique exterior and interior architecture. Three facades of the building would be complemented by high resolution LED screens permitting the Expo 2010 visitors and people of the city to be part of live performances and events occurring into the Performance Centre as well as being aware of the upcoming events. The patrons, inside the venue, from the different concourse levels, would also be able to overlook the Huangpu River or the rest of the city of Shanghai through a full size window opening.
